What Is a Gay Friendly Family?
A Gay Friendly Family is described as a family that is accepting of an LGBTQ+ family member or friend. Approximately 5% of the general population is gay; any of your family members or friends could be lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer. A member of your extended family, a mother, father, brother, aunt, uncle, cousin, niece, nephew, or friend could be an LGBTQ+ person who has not come out.
Many people have questions when they suspect, discover, or are told that one of their family members is gay. Questions you have pondered may have included:
- What does it mean to be gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender (GLBTQ+)?
- Why would anyone want to be GLBTQ+?
- Is being gay wrong?
- Can gay people be fixed?
